The West End Theatre, one of the most legendary landmarks of
the city, is also the finest in the world. Celebrities from all over the world
keep making their way to London's beloved 'Theatreland' to watch the many shows
performed there, and to be a part of them too. Though West End has to go miles
before it can match with the flambouyance of New York's Broadway, the theatre
scene in the area has become increasingly vibrant over the years. Shows such as
'The Jerry Springer Musical', 'Billy Elliot', 'Mama Mia!' and many others have
been drawing crowds from all over the world.
The first playhouse in the area was built in 1576 at
Shoreditch. At that time, it was called 'The Theatre'. Before this playhouse
was inaugurated, plays were performed in homes and courtyards. Several inns
would also play host to these plays. 1663 saw the opening of first West End
Theatre. This was considered a mini venue then, and it played host to some of
the earliest talents of the theatre world. However, in a fire in 1672, the
theatre burnt down and one of the most beloved theatrical venue in London was
lost.
Today, the West End theatre is no longer a mini venue and it
has something for everyone. Once, these theaters were only associated with the
aristocrats, but it is no longer the case. Today, cheap London theatre tickets
are available on several online portals. Anyone can experience the VIP
hospitality associated with West End theatre. The number of productions, the
array of plays available, the high standards of both acting and direction as
well as reasonably priced tickets are a magnet for all who want to enjoy
theatricals.
Some of the productions at the West End Theatre have been
going on for decades. The Moustrap, written by Agatha Christie, has been the
one production that has run for more than 60 years. Other productions such as
'Les Miserables', 'Blood Brothers', 'The Lion King', 'The Phantom of the
Opera', 'Chicago', 'The Woman In Black', and 'Stomp' have also been running
since a long time. These shows are so lucrative that they have become a very
popular tourist activity in the country and people who come to visit London
often take a day out to visit all the productions.
Lord of the Rings is the most expensive production that ever
ran at West End Theaters. This production cost about £8 million and you can
guess what kind of standards have been set in the Theatreland. The district,
which is located in the heart of the West End of the city centre in London, is
also right next to the designer boutiques and some of the best restaurants in
Europe. You can sign up for London Theatre packages and book a fabulous stay
along with your tickets to the shows and London theatre meal deals. All of
these are incredibly worth your time, and you will certainly end up having a
lot of fun here.
